RSMC ANNIVERSARY SCHOLARSHIP
(Biennial, established 2006)
2024 Scholarship Applications – CLOSED
The concept of the Royal Schools Anniversary Scholarship originated in the Club’s 75th Anniversary year when the sub-committee felt that it was appropriate to create an enduring celebration of the Club’s longevity.
It was decided that a Scholarship should be established and that it should be project-based rather than the more usual performance based.
The project, which could be in any musical field, should both benefit the local community as well as advancing the musical education of the recipient, who would be an outstanding young West Australian musician, but who did not necessarily intend to pursue a career in music.
Fund-raising began and the initial target of $20,000 was quickly reached thanks to generous donations from members of both the Royal Schools Music Club and the wider community, with strong support from many of Perth’s most successful and accomplished musicians who kindly donated their services to the Scholarship Fund.
The Scholarship was first awarded on the 80th birthday of the RSMC.
The project is limited only by the imagination of the applicant who must demonstrate and will allow an outstanding young WA musician (under 21) to undertake a musical ‘project’ of their choice to the value of $5,000. In addition to technical competence, through their playing of a 15-20 minute recital programme, their project is assessed by a panel. The project must be completed in 2 years and be over and above the ‘normal’ requirements of their music education.
