RSMC Patron named State Cultural Treasure by WA Government

Minister for Culture and the Arts, the Hon David Templeman MLA on behalf of the Western Australian Government has named our Patron, Emeritus Professor Dr Geoffrey Lancaster AO, a Living Treasure.

The concept of State Living Treasures originated in Japan when the title became the highest honour attainable by a senior traditional artist.

Established in WA in 1998 and now called the State Cultural Treasures Award, it recognises Geoffrey’s lifelong contribution to music as a performer and educator.

Geoffrey Lancaster was one of nine artists (of a total of 57 since 1998) honoured at a ceremony at the WA Museum Boola Bardip on 25 Nov 2024.
