Iain Grandage Commissioned Work
Esteemed musician Iain Grandage (pictured) has been commissioned by the RSMC to compose a choral work for the Centenary.
The work will be performed by
Aquinas College Schola Cantorum under the direction of Hugh Lydon at the Centenary Gala Event on 10th October in the Government House Ballroom. The music will be set to a poem “Song Be Delicate” by Shaw Neilson.
Iain Grandage AM
Iain Grandage AM has spent a lifetime creating and curating musical experiences, having composed for theatre, dance, opera, film and the concert hall stage.
He thrives in collaborative environments, most notably alongside First Nations artists, and has been recognised with many awards, including 7 Helpmanns and 4 Green Room Awards for both composition and music direction, APRA/AMC Dramatic Work of the Year for his opera The Riders, the prestigious Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award, an honorary Doctorate from the University of Western Australia, the 2023 West Australian of the Year for Culture & the Arts and an Order of Australia for services to the arts.
He has previously held positions as the Artistic Director of the Perth Festival (2020-2024), and the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival (2016-2018) and served on the Board of Tourism WA (2023-2025).
He currently serves on the Board of the WA Symphony Orchestra and was recently appointed Artistic Director of Spare Parts Puppet Theatre.
He also holds the role of Chief Curator at the Melbourne Recital Centre, where he continues to champion the role of music in fostering community cohesion and understanding.
